Little Italy – San Diego — A Major Start up Community Taking Shape.

For the last 6 months my work home has been in Little Italy (downtown San Diego about 4 minutes from the airport). A friend of mine Jay Chernikoff took over 20,000 square feet and repackaged the space for month to month tenants and or fast growing companies in transition. The space is called ‘Deskhub’ (full disclosure- I am also an investor).

I run StockTwits out of this office, one of our (Social Leverage’s) portfolio companies ‘Sparkfin’ is in the office and ‘Wag'(another portfolio company) has opened a San Diego office here just last month. In six months almost all 200 seats and offices are leased. The energy is incredible.

Fred Wilson wrote a post recently about the Flatiron district in Manhattan and the four things necessary for a city to thrive. I am so glad he did. Our own Little Italy has them all. In addition to everything Flatiron offers, Little Italy offers the beach, incredible range of outdoor leisure activities, endless sun and of course high doses of Howard :).

Little Italy is going to be an important startup hub and San Diego really feels like a great opportunity for any startup. Come visit for yourself anytime.
