Month One in New York

One month down in Manhattan.

I am always amazed at how New York City works, but I have a new appreciation after a month on the ground.

The outlier this month has been weather. It has been mostly perfect. New York is many multiples more fun with great weather. The days are endless.

I spent 30 minutes outside Trader Joe’s last night in Union Square waiting out front for Ellen. There is no back of the store loading dock. I was mesmerized by the activity of customers coming and going mixed with the food and goods being unloaded and carted in.

I love the people watching in SOHO on a weekend.

I have been on the lookout for people walking and staring at their phones, Airpods and Apple watches. There are more people wearing Airpods than I suspected.

I can’t believe how many ‘fitness’ facilities exists. We joined a NY Fitness club, so I guess their strategy works.

There are way too many Starbucks.

There are way too few independent retail shops. Sign of the Amazon and high real estate cost times.

I have still not taken a subway, but plan to use it a lot in October.

My favorite thing about New York is walking and eating. The ability to hone in on a particular item of food from a particular restaurant for all my meals is a luxury that I really appreciate.

All that said, I am here to work and the ability to get shit done in New York is by far the most exciting and satisfying part of this trip so far.
