My Anti – Portfolio

Bessemer Venture Partners is famous for being great venture capitalists and also for their ‘anti-portfolio‘ which is dedicated to all their big misses.

When you are feeling blue about selling Apple in 2006 or shorting Tesla because they will never make a profit, remember that smart people miss big all day every day. Though if you sold Apple in 2006 and shorted Tesla because they are a non profit…you just might be stupid.

For me, I passed on investing in Twitter and Zynga at a $20 million valuation. I won’t go any deeper on the big misses, but I have also sold some winners way too early.

IF you are GREAT the investing game it’s all ‘coulda, shoulda, woulda’ and you are truly remembered for just a few monster home runs.

If you don’t last in the investing game it’s because you can’t get into a position to swing.

I am grateful to be in the batters box. That is what I focus on each and every day when not helping founders and teams try to accelerate their businesses.

The great thing about public markets is that anyone can start and the markets are open every day. If you invest or trade, it is very important to keep moving forward, keep some capital to live another day and remember that everyone has their ‘if only’s’.

Today, be grateful you are not Emily Cikovsky, the Cliff Claven of Google:

I did play golf today with Max. I have no game anymore. Sad.
