Facebook…Hurry Up and Get Public – PART 2

In my second in a series called hurry up and get public , I defer to an interesting post by Nate Westheimer , a young entrepreneur and Facebook user.

I would agree that if Facebook went away tomorrow, my internet life would not skip a beat.

That said, if Google went away tomorrow, I could live with Yahoo and Ask, but not Mahalo.

    Thanks for the feedback…

note: we’re not looking to replace Google/Yahoo/Ask. We’re a better place to go for the top 1/3rd of your searches. The things like travel, products, entertainment, and news where machine search is limited and where humans can really help craft a better results.

highly recommend doing a search for paris hotel, ipod, etc. and comparing our results to Google/Yahoo/Ask.

.. or check out our How to section. We’re editorialized search, which is not intended to replace machine search, but rather enhance it.

    all the best,

    jason

I agree that Facebook is being idiotic to not IPO right now (did you see the Constant Contact IPO today? whoa!). However, I do think a lot of people would miss Facebook went away tomorrow – not because of the disappearance of worthless apps like Vampires, but because of Facebook’s real killer app – photos.

Their photo tagging was truly innovative, and the same way people always say the one thing they’d save in a house fire is their photos, lots of people have hundreds if not thousands of photos on Facebook that they have either uploaded or been tagged in. It’s so infinitely better than the photo sharing on MySpace and one of the main reasons the site is so sticky imho.
