Stocktoberfest – Year 2 – October 17 and 18 – San Diego

Last year we put together Stocktoberfest and it was a big success. A few hundred people from the financial world got together on Coronado to discuss stocks and the financial web.

Since that time, Lucky Sort (a presenter) was acquired by Twitter, YCharts has raised a large B round of financing and Estimize has grown fast as well. We chatted with Greg the CEO of Bank of the Internet ($BOFI). We all should have piled into the stock as it has doubled since the chat in October.

This year we will be doubling the capacity and making a few other changes.

We will have a lot more focused floor time with new financial web products so that more founders can demo their products to the attendees. My Social Leverage Fund (with Tom and Chris) continues to invest in the financial web startup space at a rapid clip.

More stock talk. Last year we were light on stock talk. Not this year. This year we will dive much deeper into all kinds of strategies, the booming opportunity in the RIA and managed account markets, and let beginners and long-time money managers have the stage to talk about the good, the bad and the ugly of getting started in the money management business and the business of stocks.

I love this image I came across on Fred Wilson’s blog.

When entrepreneurs, traders and investors are shown this image, they think different things. They should. But, I am sure we can all agree that attending a conference like Stocktoberfest is the right way for all three types of people to leave their comfort zone and focus on some magical opportunities for a few days.

Mark your calendars. The web site will be up shortly.

PS – The ETF’s are welcome…as SPONSORS :)
