Widgets – Take them seriously!

Everybody is talking about them, but is anybody doing them right?

We cover them at Wisgetslab.com and it seems that most are lacking. Not enough people are doing them right. I think if you do them right, there is a tremendous opportunity for branding and mindshare but even more importantly, sales.

My friend Gene Kavner – web guru of affiliate sales and marketing, has a great post on what makes a great widget. Trust me – he would know. I have linked to Gene before, right when he started his blog, and read everything he writes. Mostly because it is relevant to me and what I am trying to learn about sales and the web.

Here is his great advice on widgets.

From my experience with them on my site, I am excited that there have been 20 plus rounds of golf booked on the GolfNow widget in my right sidebar. Let me know if it is you! There is no reason that every golf related site and blog should not be offering this widget up on their site. It is well designed and people are obviously clicking and booking.

By the way – I was checking out some web broadcasting sites last night and really liked what I have seen at BlogTalkRadio . Thanks for the hat tip FLY. As it turns out, Gene Kavner will be interviewed this week and is on the front page. I will be tuning in.

Disclosure – I have an investment in GolfNow.com.

I finally figured out a way to use a widget on my blog. Check it out. Not rocket science, but I never said I was the sharpest knife in the drawer…
